CAN I JUST CALL THE FACTORY AND BUY A TRAILER DIRECTLY FROM THEM?
Haulmark does not sell directly to the public. You must buy from an authorized dealer.
JUST EXACTLY HOW DOES THIS PROCESS OF BUYING A TRAILER OVER THE INTERNET WORK?
It is really simple, if you choose to call a sales consultant, you and he will put a trailer quote together, when both of you agree that this is the trailer for you, you will provide a down payment.
Once that is processed, your order will be submitted to the proper plant. Within about 2 weeks, your sales consultant will receive an acknowledgement from the plant. He will match that with the order, make sure it is correct, sign it and send it back to the plant.
If prints are required, they will be sent about the same time. He will check them, and fax them to you; you inspect them, make the necessary corrections, and fax them back to him as quickly as possible.
Once all the paperwork is complete, your trailer will be built. Once your trailer is complete, you will be contacted and a time and date will be set up for pick up or delivery. If you decide you want the trailer shipped to you, full payment is required prior to delivery. If you pick up the trailer, the sales consultant will send a release form to the plant, with a Texas temporary license tag.
When you arrive at the plant, you will give a certified check or money order made payable to Trailers Direct USA and they will give you your new trailer. About 2 to 3 weeks later, you will receive your final paperwork with your MSO/Title.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO BUILD MY NEW CUSTOM TRAILER?
Typically, a trailer, depending on the plant and options, can take between 4 to 15 weeks. Smaller less optioned trailers should be ready sooner than larger heavily optioned trailers. Your sales consultant will tell you an approximate period after the completion of the quote.
WHAT KIND OF WARRANTY COMES WITH MY NEW TRAILER AND HOW DOES IT WORK?
The warranty is an automotive type warranty. It is a 3-year warranty on the trailer, and 5-year warranty on the axle. It is a one phone call warranty, when you purchase a trailer, you will be given a number and if you should need warranty work, you would call this number, and they will direct you to one of the many nationwide service centers. It is that simple.
I WANT TO TRAILER MY 1963 LINCOLN TO A SHOW ACROSS THE COUNTRY, WHAT SIZE TRAILER SHOULD I BUY?
Lets say for this question, the car is 18 feet long and weighs in at about 4900 lbs. This is a fairly large car, but it is great for this example.
You want to buy a trailer that is a little longer than the car, only because you will need some room for your extra gear and supplies. In addition, you will need some room for yourself. When you lie down on the floor to tie down your car, you will need room to maneuver. Something else, because of the weight of this car, you may want to have a 10,000 lb GVWR.
Therefore, for an answer to this question, we would recommend at least an 8.5 X 22 foot trailer with a 10,000 lb GVWR. Something else you may want to consider, you may want to buy a trailer with an escape or roadside door. There is nothing like after you pull into the trailer and the drivers door won't open because the car is almost as wide as the inside of the trailer. In this instance, the only way out is through the window. The escape door offers you the room to open the door, and if necessary, enter and exit the trailer.
HOW WIDE AND HOW TALL ARE THE WHEEL WELLS? WHAT IS THE WIDTH BETWEEN THE WHEEL WELLS?
On any 8.5 foot wide trailer, the wheel wells are 9“ x 9”. That means that you have to figure this into your dimensions for storing your vehicle in the trailer. The width between the wheel wells on an 8.5 foot wide trailer is 85“.
WOULD YOU DONATE OR ASSIST IN THE PURCHASE OF A TRAILER FOR MY NON-PROFIT GROUP?
We do offer discounts to non-profit groups, however we do not donate trailers, as we cannot afford to do this. We are asked weekly if we could do this and unfortunately, we cannot.
DO YOU OFFER A MILITARY DISCOUNT?
Yes, we are extremely proud of our military and the job they do. Just ask your sales consultant, they will provide you with the information needed to receive this discount. You may be asked to provide a current military I.D. card or some other form of identification to prove your military status.
WHAT OTHER DISCOUNTS DO YOU OFFER?
Our discounts vary and we also have specials. Ask your sales consultant for details. Only one discount per customer per trailer purchase.
WILL YOU SPONSOR MY RACE TEAM?
We get these questions several times a week. At this time, we are a small company and do not have the resources to sponsor any race teams.
DO YOU SELL TO ANY U.S. GOVERNMENT OR AGENCIES?
Yes, we do, and we are currently working on getting all the necessary paperwork together to sell to the federal government. However most local government agencies do not require all the red tape so we can work with most of them on an individual basis.
DO V-NOSED TRAILERS GET BETTER FUEL MILEAGE FOR MY TOW VEHICLE, THAN A BULL NOSED OR FLAT NOSED TRAILER?
There is no documented proof that this is true, however due to the design, this must be the case.
I NEED A PART FOR THE TRAILER I BOUGHT FROM YOUR COMPANY, WHERE CAN I GET PARTS?
Most parts are available from your local auto parts stores, however if you cannot find a part, please call us, we will be happy to assist you.
WHAT TYPES OF HITCHES ARE AVAILABLE AND HOW DO THEY WORK?
There are several different types of hitches available; the following is a list and a brief description.
Standard ball hitch: This is the typical ball hitch you see on most tag trailers. It will have a locking device on the top that you set once you placed the hitch on the ball. In most cases, this is all you will need. This also comes in a heavy duty and adjustable model.
Bulldog ball hitch: This hitch would be considered a heavy-duty model. When the hitch is placed on the ball, two jaws grip the underside of the ball and a sleeve is moved over the flanges on the jaws to lock it in place. This also comes in an adjustable model.
Pintel ring hitch: This hitch looks like a big ring and you would set the ring in a pintel hook. This model is very strong, however it has a lot of play and would not be used in the everyday consumer application. They are mostly used in government applications. This is also available in the adjustable model.
Fifth wheel hitch: This style is used only for fifth wheel trailers. It has a kingpin on a post that attaches to the fifth wheels' plate that would be mounted in the back of a pickup truck. A very strong and durable hitch.
Gooseneck hitch: This style is only used for gooseneck trailers. It has a hitch assembly on the end of a post that would sit on top of a ball mounted in the back of a pickup truck. Most people like this style better than a fifth wheel because when not needed, the ball is easily removed from the back of the pickup truck and ready to go in minutes.
Always remember to hook up safety chains, locking pins, lights, electrical connections and breakaway kits properly before towing any trailer. Safety first!
DO YOU SELL MOTOR HOMES, HOUSE TRAILERS, BOAT TRAILERS OR JET SKI TRAILERS?
Haulmark does sell motor coaches; TrailersDirectUSA does not at this time. As to house trailers, no, we do not sell them, however there is a trailer called an Escape trailer, which is for the weekend racer or adventurer. Please ask your sales consultant for details. As to the boat and Jet Ski trailers, Haulmark does not currently sell them, however we have another company we sell kit trailers for, please check our website for more information or ask your sales consultant.
DO YOU SELL TRAILERS OVERSEAS?
No, shipping a trailer overseas is extremely expensive. In most cases, it costs more to ship a trailer overseas, than the trailer is worth. We will ship the trailer to any port in the United States, and you can arrange for shipment to anywhere you like. We do require full payment prior to shipment.
WHAT IS GVWR AND HOW IS THAT IMPORTANT TO ME?
G.V.W.R. is gross vehicle weight rating. What this means is how much your trailer can carry with the following formula. Trailer weight + cargo or payload = GVWR.
Example: If the GVWR is 3500 lbs., the trailer weight is 1600 lbs. then the payload cannot exceed 1900 lbs. If you were to exceed this, you could damage your trailer, tow vehicle and may even cause you to have safety related concerns.
I OWN A LARGE MOTOR HOME, DO I NEED TO DO ANYTHING SPECIAL TO TOW A TRAILER?
That all depends on the size of the motor home and the size of the trailer you will be towing. In relationship to the trailer, something to think about is how wide the motor home and the trailer are.
If they are both 8.5 feet wide, and you make a hard turn, you may find that you will crush one or the other, so you would before hooking up make sure you have the trailer built with an extended tongue or have a very long ball receiver. This will prevent this problem from happening, and you will find it easier to back the trailer up when needed.
You may also need an electric brake controller if your trailer has electric brakes. Something more to consider is a stabilizer kit. This will make the trailer easier to tow on windy days or uneven pavement and it offers more control to the driver over the trailer.
A transmission cooler is necessary and you may even want engine oil cooler and transmission oil cooler. Heat will kill an engine and transmission faster than anything will, and these will offer you more protection to keep the engine and transmission running cool on those long trips towing a trailer. Make sure your mirrors or rear cameras are adjusted correctly, you really need to see back there.
DOES HAULMARK OFFER A FLAT BED, HORSE, OR DUMP TRAILER?
At this time, they do not.
WHERE CAN I GET HAULMARK HATS, COATS OR OTHER BRANDED PRODUCTS, DO YOU SELL THEM?
Actually, these items are available from Haulmark at the Haulmark webpage under lifestyles link.
MY NEW TRAILER CAME WITH INTERIOR LIGHTS; DO I HAVE TO BE HOOKED TO MY TOW VEHICLE TO MAKE THEM WORK?
In most cases, the interior lights will not work unless you are hooked up to the tow vehicle. You can add a 12v battery to your trailer, and be able to use the interior lights. Ask your sales consultant for details.
I WANT TO USE MY 110V POWER COMPUTER, OR OTHER ELECTRICAL DEVICE, IS THERE A WAY TO DO THAT?
There are several options to solve this concern. You add a generator and generator package to your trailer, you can add an electrical package to your trailer, or you can add a service panel and motobase to your trailer. All three of the options can make it so your 110v electrical devices work.
In stock trailers can be picked up within 48 hours of purchase at the factory. All other orders will be processed and can be picked up when the trailer construction is complete.
