Features & Options

blue question mark

WHAT KIND OF OPTIONS ARE AVAILABLE?

blue answer mark

Haulmark offers over 1200 different options for trailers. Some options come together in packages at a lower over all cost, and others although you may like, are not available with all trailers. Check with your sales consultant for more information.

blue question mark

CAN ANY OPTION OR PACKAGE FIT ON ANY TRAILER?

blue answer mark

Some packages and options will not fit on all trailers. For example, the Transport Package will only work on Transport trailers.

Below floor tire storage will only go on larger trailers, due to size issues. There are many other differences, so please check with your sales consultant for more information.

blue question mark

WHAT COLORS DO YOU OFFER AND DOES IT COST MORE TO HAVE A COLOR?

blue answer mark

Each trailer has a color chart attached to the webpage, please refer to this page for colors. As to charges for colors, the only colors that we charge for are orange and yellow and the reason for this is they are proprietary colors, they are owned by someone.

blue question mark

CAN YOU DO CUSTOM PAINTING OR DESIGNS?

blue answer mark

No, the colors we offer are all that Haulmark offers. The panels used to build your new trailer, come from the manufacturer of the aluminum, pre-painted.

blue question mark

IS IT POSSIBLE TO ADD A THIRD AXLE TO MY TRAILER?

blue answer mark

During the process of designing your new trailer, depending on the size and weight requirements of your trailer, you may indeed make it a tri-axle or three-axle trailer.

blue question mark

IS IT POSSIBLE TO ORDER A TRAILER THAT SHOULD BE A 3 AXLE TRAILER, BUT ONLY MAKE IS A 2 AXLE TRAILER?

blue answer mark

Yes, this can be done, however the tandem axles will have to have the same or greater capacity as the triple axle trailer. You cannot put a tandem axle set of less weight capacity than was originally designed.

blue question mark

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A TORFLEX AXLE AND A SPRING AXLE?

blue answer mark

The torflex axle is a large metal bar that is twisted or torqued and when radial tires are added offers a smoother ride. It is as close to an independent suspension as you can get on a trailer. What that means is this, if the left front wheel hits a pothole, the right front wheel does not know it. Only the wheel(s) that hits the bump moves.

The spring axle has more parts that are moving and when a bump is hit, that energy is passed through the whole trailer.

blue question mark

DOES MY NEW TRAILER COME WITH A SPARE TIRE?

blue answer mark

No, spare tires and wheels are options that may be purchased. You may also purchase different mounts for your spare tire. Exterior mounting puts the spare tire on a post at the front of the trailer, interior mounting puts the spare tire on a wall mount or below floor tire storage, places it under the floor in a compartment with a cover. The under floor spare tire carrier only comes on larger trailers, as the smaller trailers sit too close to the ground.

blue question mark

ARE THE TIRES ON MY NEW TRAILER NEW?

blue answer mark

Yes, all new Haulmark trailers come from the factory with new tires. Most models come standard with radial tires; however, the Transport models all come with Bias-ply tires.

blue question mark

HOW DO THE ELECTRIC BRAKES WORK WHEN HOOKED TO MY TOW VEHICLE?

blue answer mark

In order for the electric brakes to work, you will need an electric brake controller. This device will, when you apply the brakes on your tow vehicle, apply the trailer brakes thru an electrical charge.

The electric brakes on your trailer are just like the brakes on your vehicle, with the exception that these work through magnets and electricity and the brakes on your vehicle are operated hydraulically.

This device is fully adjustable, and can be set as light or as heavy as you like. Just like your vehicle, you need to inspect these brakes periodically to insure they have not worn out and are working properly.

blue question mark

I HAVE A SCOUT TROOP AND SEVERAL DIFFERENT PEOPLE WILL BE USING THIS TRAILER. I KNOW IT HAS ELECTRIC BRAKES, IS THERE A WAY FOR THEM TO USE THIS TRAILER WITHOUT INSTALLING AN ELECTRIC BRAKE CONTROLLER?

blue answer mark

Yes, actually there is a very simple solution to this concern. Surge brakes can be installed instead of electric brakes. They are controlled mechanically or hydraulically. They operate just like the brakes on your tow vehicle. They will require a little more maintenance than the electric brakes and you will need to check the brake fluid from time to time, but other than that, this should resolve your concern.

blue question mark

I HAVE HEARD THAT YOU CANNOT BACK A TRAILER WITH SURGE BRAKES ON THEM, IS THIS TRUE?

blue answer mark

When surge brakes were first built, they were hard to operate and all but impossible to back, but that was then, this is now. The new surge brakes on trailers are easy to use, and will allow you to back your vehicle with the trailer attached, no problem.

blue question mark

CAN MY NEW TRAILER GET SHOCK ABSORBERS?

blue answer mark

These options are not typically available on this type of trailer. They are not necessary with the current type of suspension.

blue question mark

WHAT IS AUTOMOTIVE UNDERCOATING?

blue answer mark

This is a thick gooey product that is sprayed on the frame when the trailer is being built. This protects the underside of the trailer from rust, water and other elements. Also the entire underside of the trailer is coated with this product.

blue question mark

WHAT IS A SAND PAD?

blue answer mark

This is the small pad at the base of the tongue jack, when you lower your tongue jack, you will not screw it into the ground. They also prevent in most cases, sinking into soft asphalt or sand.

blue question mark

WHAT IS A STONEGUARD?

blue answer mark

The Stoneguard is typically a piece of ATP (aluminum tread plate) formed to the front of the trailer; it will protect the front of the trailer from any debris that may be thrown up from under the tow vehicle. These are typically 24” high.

blue question mark

WHAT ARE FLUSH AND BAR LOCKS?

blue answer mark

These are the locks that keep rear and side doors closed. The difference between them is the flush lock goes on side doors, and is flush with the door. It can be operated from inside the trailer as well as outside the trailer, and comes with a deadbolt lock.

The bar lock or cam lock door, has a bar on the door with a cam on the top and bottom that fits into a latch on the top and bottom frame area of the trailer. When the handle is moved it will either lock or unlock the door, and is typically locked with a padlock type lock.

blue question mark

WHAT ARE LANDING GEAR?

blue answer mark

Landing gear typically come in pairs, however you can also sometimes find them in single applications. They are located in the front of the trailer, and when cranked down, manually, either hydraulically, or electrically, they will lift the front of the trailer up enough to be able to unhook it. These are mostly on very heavy trailers; most of the smaller trailers just have a tongue jack that is more than enough to do the job. They also come as electric as needed.

blue question mark

WHAT IS WOLMIZIED PLYWOOD?

blue answer mark

This is pressure treated wood that will survive the elements and bugs a lot better than standard or exterior grade plywood.

blue question mark

HOW MANY MOTORCYCLES CAN I PUT IN A SINGLE AXLE TRAILER?

blue answer mark

This all depends on how large the motorcycles are. If you are putting a cruiser in this trailer, we recommend only one. The reason is this, these bikes are very wide, and very heavy, with the average weight around 800 lbs.

Depending on the trailer, if you put two bikes in, the GVWR may be exceeded or be real close to the maximum. Smaller motorcycles also depend on the weight of the bikes and the size of the trailer. You should be able to get a couple of moto-cross bikes loaded without too much trouble.
